Galloping to Gallup, New Mexico

YeeHaww! Another day of riding and entering New Mexico. It was a long one, like 300 miles. The ride today was going to be longer but we skipped the trip to Flagstaff as we got a late start and wanted to get into Gallup before 10 pm.

While riding we noticed an old route 66 bridge.
The sign said "Road Closed" but we went on it any way because we're crazy like that.
Further down the road we came across the Twin Arrows Trading Post. Supposedly a famous truck stop back in the day but not anymore. Its all boarded up and vandalized. Just a matter of time before it get torn down and disappears.
This is what's left of the 'twin arrows'.
A few more miles and a couple of photo shoots later we reached another ghost town, Two Guns. Pretty gangsta town name if you ask me. There is some crazy story about the town...something about a couple of outlaws that went to a bar and got into a shoot out with the law...one of the guys died but never got the drink he paid for. So some cowboys dug up his body and poured a drink through his cold rotting lips...There's more to the story but that's all i remember.
Uncle Floyd hangin' out with his wang out.
For a ghost town there was pretty fancy stuff...such as this tv! There was only one channel though...
i also found an outdoor lounge!
Past the ghost town we decided to check out this 'meteor crater'. Probably one of the most worthless things we've been to especially since you have to pay like 13 bones to get in. i guess i'm glad i went but never again. Definitely a one time thing...like going to a gay bar...unless the drinks are free then i guess you can go twice.
i don't really know the song "standin' on the corner"/"take it easy" whatever you call it but i do know the Eagles so i'm not completely worthless. uncle floyd just had to stop at the corner of Winslow, Arizona. Though the store across the street wasn't playing the song...they were playing hotel california instead..lame.
By this point of the day i was getting tired of all these stops. i thought this was a 'bike trip" not a "take pictures trip". But i'm sure i'll be glad we did all these stops sometime later in life when these places don't exist any more.

Another pit stop was at the Jack Rabbit. Not sure what's so great about this place but its pretty old and still running. We each bought a V8 with low sodium. We asked the woman working there if she had many people coming in but she said it was pretty slow and probably due to gas prices being so high.

At least i got to sit on a jack rabbit. If only it was real i'd do the rest of the trip on this thing.
Just when i thought we were done stopping at places we pulled over to another Wigwam Motel. At least this one was cooler than the previous one because it had a bunch of old school cars scattered around the Wigwams. There was also some old pictures, petrified trees, guns, and other junx inside the lobby.
Right before getting into Gallup we tried getting into the Petrified Forest...but it was already pass 6pm and the park was closed. Can't do it all i guess. We then booked it to Gallup.

i believe it was our second night of out trip my dad suggested going to Applebee's for dinner and uncle floyd's response was, "well i could go to an Applebee's at home..". What place do we end up going for dinner this night? Applebee's because uncle floyd was too tired to go anywhere else. How about that...

For appetizers we got the combo platter thing..
For dinner i got the Brewtus Burger. 10oz sirloin steak burger. Kind of heavy for a meal at 9pm and it wasn't even that good. Probably because it was only sirloin and it tends to get dry when ground up and cooked. Should have thrown in a couple cubes of chuck in the mix...but what do i know.
When we got back to the room we tried setting up the pull out sofa (my dad's turn to sleep on a crappy bed) but it wouldn't pull out. i eventually muscled it out and turned out that it was broken and looked really uncomfortable. uncle floyd called the front desk seeing if they would give us another room for free but the didn't, lame. Instead the rolled up a roll-a-way cot and my dad slept on that.
