The Ropin' Fool

Today we find ourselves leaving Tulsa and going to St. Robert, Missouri. Our first attraction we would be stopping at today was the "Blue Whale". One of the most recognizable attractions on Route 66. It was built by Hugh Davis as an anniversary gift for his wife who collected whale figurines. Weird...
This thing is so random. Its location is this water hole that locals would swim in. But now there are signs saying "No Swimming" around it. i don't even know why anyone would think about swimming in this...its so nasty looking.
Here is the mouth of the whale...
Here is uncle floyd diving off the tail of the whale..

After the whale visit and a few miles of traveling we stopped at the Will Roger's Memorial Museum. i'm sure i've heard the name before but did not really know who he really was. i mean come on, he died before my dad was born.
Will Rogers was a quarter cherokee and has a million quotes in this museum...
He also liked to collect saddles...He died at the age of 55 in a plane accident. His watch was stopped at 8:18. He wrote columns for the New York times and made 71 movies. He has some sick lasso skills that can be seen in his movie Ropin' Fool. He did some things i didn't even think were possible with a piece of rope.
We spent way too much time at this museum and even though we did not have a long ride today...we were in for a late arrival at our hotel..

Uncle Floyd and me caught by a train..
On our way to Missouri we actually went through a couple miles of Kansas. Silly Kansas..only getting a little bit of Route 66.
We eventually arrived at this bridge. Not sure what the name is...Rainbow Curve Bridge...i'm going to go with that. If you ask me i think that name is kind of gay. But i'm sure it was talk of the town back in the day.
Pretty fancy white bridge...
i got bored while at the bridge and decided to climb to the top of it. Not sure why i did it...i'm terrified of heights.
But i guess you either go big or go home...
Even if i did fall i'd probably only break one or both my legs..

Gas is so cheap in Missouri!! Hook me up! 3.15 bones per gallons is not that bad. Later in the day i saw it being sold for 3.07 bones per gallon. What a steal!
Three states in one day!!
Before reaching our hotel we stopped at this 'famous' motel according to uncle floyd's Route 66 book...took a picture and we were on our way again.
It was a little after 8pm when we arrived to our hotel. Some crazy hotel we haven't been to yet and since they didn't have wireless internet on the upper flloors the manager upgraded us to a suite on the first floor! That's what i'm talking about.

For a place to eat dinner at we wanted a place within walking distance. The place ended up at was called Miller's Grill. Ugh, had to look at the receipt for that one...

First things first....beer. 22 oz of Blue Moon..
We were all in the mood for potato skins...and usually when you get potato skins they cut up a single or even half a potato so we got two orders....To our suprise they actually use two whole potatos per appetizer. So we had 4 potatoes infront of us before the main course and i had already orderd a baked potato for a side before realizing how much potato was in the appetizers.
For dinner i got some crazy chicken thing with dijon mustard and bacon on top. i also got a side of apple sauce so i felt like i was eating somewhat healthy. By the end of the night i had consumed 2 1/2 potatoes.
Oh man i was so stuffed...next city is St. Louis!!
