On Our Way to Santa Fe!

We leave the hotel, get gas, and venture off into downtown Gallup. There are like a million indians here. The kind with feathers in their head not the ones with the dot on their forehead.

Not only are there Native Americans but they're my favorite kind! The Navajo! Not sure why they're my favorite...i guess because i did a report on them in fourth grade and made some navajo crafts in art class.

We asked a local where we could find the El Rancho Motel. He was hilarious. Must of been the funniest navajo in town. uncle floyd said he smelled like booze but i wasn't close enough to notice but i did get a bit of him on tape. He did mention that the people in town use to drink a lot which was exactly what uncle floyd read earlier that day.

We checked out some stores and finally headed to El Rancho, home of the movie stars.
This is like one of the coolest motels ever!! Why the heck did we waste our money on a lame Quality Inn suite?? All the rooms in this place are named after movie stars that stayed in them. Of course they're all old actors and i only knew a few of them like John Wayne. i found out that Ronald Reagan was in the movie business, and i learned something today. The presidential suite is named after him. The woman at the front desk gave use keys to the room to check it out. It was pretty fancy...well the bathroom was.
Since we didn't stay at this motel we did the next best thing, eat here! Not only are the rooms named after movie stars, but so are the entrees! Those clever bastards. i had the John Wayne burger. Nothing too crazy, just a half pound burger topped with guacamole.
Here is the burger assembled...it was much better than the crappy Applebee's burger the night before.
To wash it all down i got me some Navajo tea. Took forever to get it since it takes awhile to brew and the waitress forgot about it and let me have it for free! Woot! 3 more bones to keep in my pocket! The waitress said that the tea is suppose to relax your nerves. Boy i should have gotten a couple gallons to go if it would help traveling with these two.

The tea was good but tasted like any other herbal tea.
Just when i thought we got all our random stops out of our system the day before, we stop to take a look at these busted rail cars. They were actually kind of cool to walk around in but i almost jumped out of my skin when a pigeon and a cat came out of no where in two of the cars.
Another one of our 'famous' stopping points was the Sands Motel.
Not sure what the big deal was about this place but Babo was going nuts about it. The couple running it were indian. My dad and uncle read that a lot of these motels on route 66 are owned by indians and some people don't approve of it because they're not 'american'. If it bothers them so much than they should run them.
No idea what this is all about...
Saw this dog at a gas station. Even though it was ugly it still reminded me of Daisy...sniff.
After finally arriving into Santa Fe it was time to find a place for dinner. Did you know there are Mexicans in New Mexico? i thought it was one of those Iceland/Greenland things...like Greenland isn't green...and Iceland isn't covered with ice...hmm.

The place i picked for dinner was Adelita's Mexican Restaurant. There was another mexican place suggested by the hotel but i was sure i could find a better place like Adelita's that serves octopus tacos!
i should have gotten the octopus or the cow stomach soup or maybe the cow tongue sandwich...but i wasn't feeling adventureous at the time. Instead of those delicious sounding foods i got the adelita enchillas. Just a regular enchillada smothered in mucshroom sauce. The enchilladas were really good though i kind of wish i tried the octopus tacos.
